13 Must-Watch Prime Video Thrillers for Fall 2026

17 min read

Finding a great Prime Video thriller for a dark autumn night should be easy, yet the enormous library can leave you scrolling through menus longer than some actual movies. This fall 2026 watchlist cuts through that problem with fourteen thrillers genuinely worth your time, covering psychological mysteries, action thrillers, murder investigations, espionage, horror and several dangerously bingeable crime series.

Prime Video has quietly assembled one of the strongest thriller lineups of the season. September alone brings Gal Gadot racing through London in The Runner, Maria Sten finally getting her own Reacher spinoff with Neagley, and Guy Ritchie throwing elite operatives into an impossible billion-dollar heist in In the Grey. October then gets even darker with Mike Flanagan reinventing Stephen King's Carrie before Chris Pratt returns for The Terminal List Season 2.

I have also included several recent Prime Video thrillers that arrived earlier in 2026 because fall viewing is about mood as much as release dates. Reacher Season 4 is still fresh, The Devil's Mouth gives you claustrophobic survival horror, and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is exactly the sort of nightmare you put on in October before immediately questioning every noise outside. Prime Video's current catalogue is particularly strong if you like mysteries where seemingly ordinary people discover that absolutely nobody around them can be trusted.

The result is deliberately varied. You will find serial killers, missing people, assassins, spies, military conspiracies, supernatural horror, family secrets and several protagonists who really should have ignored that phone call. Some are popcorn thrillers designed to make two hours disappear, while others are slower psychological stories built around paranoia and character.

If Netflix has dominated your thriller watchlist lately, Prime Video has more than enough this autumn to tempt you across. These are the Prime Video thriller movies and TV shows I would prioritise for September, October and November 2026.

Lock the doors, make something warm and prepare to become suspicious of everybody on screen. Let’s get into it 👇

13. The Better Sister

I expected The Better Sister to be another glossy domestic mystery where rich people stare suspiciously at one another across expensive kitchen islands, and admittedly it does contain some of that. What makes the eight-episode Prime Video thriller considerably more interesting is Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks playing estranged sisters Chloe and Nicky, with Corey Stoll, Kim Dickens and Lorraine Toussaint surrounding them.

Chloe appears to have built the perfect life as a successful media executive with husband Adam and teenage son Ethan, while Nicky's life has taken a much rougher path. When Adam is brutally murdered, the investigation reunites the sisters and begins exposing the complicated family history underneath Chloe's polished existence. The identity of the main suspect makes matters even messier, turning the murder mystery into a story about loyalty, resentment and what siblings are willing to hide for one another.

Biel and Banks give the series the emotional weight it needs, particularly when the mystery starts pulling old wounds back to the surface. If you enjoyed Big Little Lies, The Undoing or domestic thrillers where every beautiful house contains approximately seventeen secrets, this is an easy fall binge.

Where to watch: Stream all eight episodes of The Better Sister now on Prime Video.

12. Vanished

Four episodes can be a wonderful thing when you want a mystery without accidentally committing the next twelve hours of your life to it. Vanished stars Kaley Cuoco and Sam Claflin in a compact Prime Video mystery thriller that begins with a romantic European trip and quickly transforms into something considerably less relaxing. Karin Viard and Matthias Schweighöfer also appear in the international cast.

Cuoco plays Alice Monroe, whose seemingly perfect holiday with boyfriend Tom Parker takes a terrifying turn when he disappears during a train journey through France. Searching for him pulls Alice into a dangerous mystery where she begins discovering that the man she loved may have been keeping enormous parts of his life hidden from her. Every answer makes Tom slightly more mysterious, which is exactly what you want from this type of missing-person thriller.

Cuoco has become particularly good at playing ordinary women thrown into situations that require increasingly desperate decisions. The European locations add scale without overwhelming the personal mystery, while the short episode count keeps everything moving.

This is ideal if you like missing-person mysteries, conspiracy thrillers and shows you can realistically finish over one rainy weekend. Four episodes, one disappearance and enough secrets to ruin several relationships feels like a fair trade.

Where to watch: Stream Vanished now on Prime Video.

11. Over Your Dead Body

There are sophisticated psychological thrillers on this list, and then there is Over Your Dead Body, which begins with the beautifully horrible idea of two people independently planning to murder each other. Samara Weaving and Jason Segel play a deeply unhappy couple who head to a remote cabin supposedly hoping to repair their relationship. Unfortunately, each arrives with a considerably more permanent solution in mind.

The premise becomes increasingly chaotic when their individual murder plans begin colliding and unexpected outsiders enter the situation. Instead of a straightforward killer-versus-victim story, the movie turns into a dark comedy thriller where nobody has complete control and every attempt to fix one problem creates another. It is basically couples therapy if the therapist immediately resigned and everybody brought weapons.

Weaving is particularly suited to this mixture of horror, panic and black comedy after Ready or Not, while Segel's presence makes the pairing deliberately strange. The movie works best when it embraces how ridiculous the situation has become without removing the danger.

If your fall watchlist needs something twisted but not relentlessly miserable, this is a useful palate cleanser between heavier crime dramas. Relationships are difficult; apparently murder is even more complicated.

Where to watch: Stream Over Your Dead Body now on Prime Video.

10. The Devil's Mouth

I have a very simple rule with underwater cave movies: if somebody suggests swimming into an unexplored hole beneath the ocean, I am staying on the boat. The characters in The Devil's Mouth understandably ignore this excellent advice, giving Prime Video one of its most claustrophobic survival thrillers of 2026.

Five friends travelling along Thailand's spectacular coastline decide to take one final adventure together before adult life pulls them in different directions. They sign up for a guided swim through a remote cave system called the Devil's Mouth, but the beautiful excursion becomes a fight for survival once the group finds itself trapped inside an environment where darkness, water and limited escape routes turn every mistake into a potentially fatal one. Suddenly the gorgeous holiday photographs seem less important.

The film uses its location wonderfully because the same landscape can look inviting above water and terrifying once the characters move beneath it. Survival thrillers work when you can understand the geography of the danger, and the confined cave system creates immediate physical tension.

Watch this if you enjoyed The Descent, 47 Meters Down or any thriller where nature appears to be personally offended by human confidence.

Where to watch: Stream The Devil's Mouth now on Prime Video.

9. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

This is where the autumn watchlist gets properly nasty. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple continues the revived British horror franchise with Ralph Fiennes, Jack O'Connell and Alfie Williams, while Cillian Murphy's involvement reconnects the expanding story to the nightmare that began with 28 Days Later. It is horror, certainly, but the franchise's survival-thriller DNA makes it impossible to leave out.

The film pushes deeper into a Britain transformed by decades of infection, where surviving humans can be every bit as frightening as the infected roaming beyond supposedly safe communities. Dr. Kelson becomes increasingly central as different survivors confront the strange cultures and violent belief systems that have emerged from social collapse. The result is less interested in simple zombie attacks than in what people become when normal rules have been gone for far too long.

The unsettling imagery alone makes this perfect October viewing, but there is intelligence underneath the violence. The revived series remains fascinated by mortality, community and the uncomfortable possibility that civilisation is sometimes only a very thin agreement.

If your definition of a thriller happily overlaps with horror, this is one of Prime Video's biggest dark-night watches of 2026.

Where to watch: Stream 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple on Prime Video.

8. Citadel: Season 2

The first Citadel sometimes looked like somebody had given a spy thriller an unlimited credit card before completely deciding what story they wanted to tell. Season 2 is much more confident. Richard Madden returns as Mason Kane alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Nadia Sinh and Stanley Tucci as Bernard Orlick, while the espionage world expands around them.

The surviving Citadel agents remain scattered after the destruction of their intelligence organisation, with Manticore still hunting them across Europe. Mason continues struggling with fractured memories of the operative he once was, while Nadia tries to protect her daughter and Bernard becomes entangled with new allies and dangerous international players. Arms dealers, secret organisations and conflicting loyalties ensure that nobody gets anything resembling a quiet week.

The second season benefits enormously from already having the complicated mythology established. Instead of constantly explaining the world, it can focus on betrayals, action sequences and the question of who these agents become when their identities have effectively been rewritten.

Fans of glossy spy thrillers, international conspiracies and shows like The Night Agent should give it a look. It is big, expensive espionage television that finally seems comfortable with its own ambitions.

Where to watch: Stream Citadel Season 2 now on Prime Video.

7. In the Grey

Guy Ritchie and morally questionable professionals are such a reliable combination that I barely need the rest of the sales pitch. In the Grey arrives on Prime Video on September 9 with a covert team of elite operatives attempting an extraordinarily dangerous heist. Naturally, the target is not a convenient suitcase containing £50; they are going after a billion-dollar fortune.

The team operates in the shadows between official authority and outright criminality, using specialist skills to take back money stolen by a ruthless despot. What begins as a seemingly impossible recovery mission becomes a larger game involving strategy, deception and survival, where alliances can change as quickly as the plan. Ritchie has always enjoyed watching extremely competent people explain complicated schemes immediately before everything goes spectacularly wrong.

This should appeal to viewers who prefer their thrillers fast rather than contemplative. The attraction is competence, banter, betrayals and watching an elaborate operation develop while knowing some crucial piece is inevitably going to collapse.

If The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man or The Covenant worked for you, put this near the top of your September Prime Video watchlist. Sometimes autumn viewing needs fewer haunted houses and more impossible heists.

Where to watch: Stream In the Grey on Prime Video from September 9.

6. The Assassin

Keeley Hawes as a retired assassin living on a Greek island is one of those television premises that immediately sounds better than whatever else you were planning to watch. The Prime Video thriller pairs Hawes with Freddie Highmore as Julie and her estranged son Edward, turning an awkward family reunion into a much larger story involving violence, secrets and people from Julie's past who have absolutely not forgotten her.

Edward arrives wanting answers about his father, forcing Julie to confront parts of her life she has deliberately kept buried. Before mother and son can properly deal with their complicated relationship, Julie's former profession catches up with them and the pair become targets. Their attempt to survive gradually reveals that Edward understands far less about his mother than he imagined.

Hawes is excellent at combining emotional restraint with the sense that Julie could become extremely dangerous if necessary. Highmore provides the more vulnerable perspective, allowing the action to work alongside a surprisingly effective mother-son story.

Prime Video has already renewed the thriller for a second season, making fall 2026 a particularly good time to catch up. If you like The Tourist, Killing Eve or reluctant-assassin stories, this should be high on your list.

Where to watch: Stream Season 1 of The Assassin now on Prime Video.

5. Reacher: Season 4

At this point, Reacher knows exactly why you have turned up. Alan Ritchson returns as Jack Reacher for Season 4, adapting Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow and throwing the enormous former military investigator into another conspiracy where powerful people make the unfortunate mistake of assuming he will mind his own business.

The season begins when Reacher encounters a distressed stranger on a subway and the situation turns deadly. His attempt to understand what happened pulls him into a complicated conspiracy involving dangerous enemies operating at extremely high levels of power. The mystery gradually expands beyond one tragic encounter, giving Reacher another excuse to investigate, calculate and occasionally solve disagreements by introducing somebody to a wall.

Ritchson remains the show's greatest strength because he understands the character's appeal. Reacher is intimidating without being humourless, intelligent without constantly announcing it and strangely principled despite leaving an impressive amount of destruction behind him.

Season 4 only began in August and continues into September, making it one of the freshest action thrillers available for fall 2026. If you want mysteries with fist fights rather than melancholy detectives staring at evidence boards, you already know what to do.

Where to watch: Stream Reacher Season 4 on Prime Video, with the complete season available following the September 16 finale.

4. Neagley

Giving Frances Neagley her own series feels less like a spinoff and more like correcting an oversight. Maria Sten has repeatedly been one of Reacher's strongest supporting performers, and Neagley finally places her private investigator at the centre of an eight-episode Prime Video action thriller. Better still, all eight episodes arrive together on September 16.

Neagley is working as a private investigator in Chicago when she learns that a beloved friend from her past has died in what appears to be a suspicious accident. Her search for answers draws on everything she learned in the Army's 110th Special Investigations Unit and sends her toward a much larger evil. Alan Ritchson also appears as Reacher, but this is deliberately Neagley's investigation rather than a disguised fifth season of his show.

Sten's controlled performance has always suggested a character who notices considerably more than she says. Building a mystery around her investigative ability should give the Reacher universe a slightly different rhythm while retaining the action and conspiracy elements audiences already love.

This is one of my easiest fall recommendations. Eight episodes, one-day release, familiar universe and a character who has already earned her promotion.

Where to watch: Stream all eight episodes of Neagley on Prime Video from September 16.

3. Carrie

Mike Flanagan adapting Carrie for television sounds so perfectly matched that I am surprised it took this long. The filmmaker behind The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher brings Stephen King's first novel to Prime Video as an eight-episode series, with Summer H. Howell taking on Carrie White. All eight episodes arrive October 7.

Carrie is a painfully isolated teenage girl living under the control of her fanatically religious mother while enduring relentless bullying at school. As adolescence becomes increasingly unbearable, Carrie discovers that she possesses powerful telekinetic abilities, setting the stage for one of horror's most famous stories of humiliation, rage and catastrophic revenge. Flanagan's involvement suggests the series will have enough room to explore Carrie's emotional life rather than simply racing toward the inevitable bloodshed.

That is exactly why I am excited. Flanagan is at his best when supernatural horror grows directly from grief, loneliness and damaged families, and Carrie contains all three before anybody even reaches prom.

For October 2026, this is almost mandatory viewing. Horror fans, psychological-thriller viewers and Stephen King readers should clear the evening.

Where to watch: Stream all eight episodes of Carrie on Prime Video from October 7.

2. The Terminal List: Season 2

Rain-soaked man in black cap and shirt, wearing an earbud and tactical vest, stares ahead with a focused, intense expression.

Chris Pratt's James Reece returns on October 21, and Season 2 looks considerably larger than the personal revenge story that began The Terminal List. Based on Jack Carr's second Reece novel, True Believer, the new eight-episode season shifts the action toward international espionage while retaining the military-thriller intensity that made the original series a hit.

After completing the revenge mission that consumed his first season, Reece is searching for some form of purpose beyond violence. Instead, he becomes drawn into a conspiracy stretching from Moscow to Langley, with connections reaching into his own family history. The investigation takes him from the Indian Ocean through Africa and the Middle East into Europe, transforming a psychological revenge thriller into something closer to a globe-spanning spy saga.

Pratt works surprisingly well in this darker register because Reece's competence never completely hides the psychological damage underneath it. Season 2 also arrives after The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, meaning Prime Video has had time to expand the political and intelligence world surrounding him.

If you like military thrillers, CIA conspiracies, Jack Ryan-style espionage and serious action, this could swallow an entire October weekend very easily.

Where to watch: Stream all eight episodes of The Terminal List Season 2 on Prime Video from October 21.

1. The Runner

Injured woman in a blue athletic top adjusts an earpiece, blood on her temple, looking worried on a blurred city street.

The Runner has such a clean thriller premise that you can explain it in ten seconds and immediately understand why it could work. Gal Gadot plays Maia Marten, a successful London lawyer whose ordinary morning run becomes a nightmare when an anonymous caller tells her that her son has been kidnapped. Kevin Macdonald directs, with Damian Lewis and Alfred Enoch among the supporting cast.

The caller gives Maia brutally simple instructions: keep moving, follow every command and tell nobody what is happening. If she stops, her son dies. Maia is therefore forced to race across London on foot while completing increasingly dangerous demands, eventually discovering that saving her child may require crossing moral lines connected to her own legal career.

London is a brilliant location for this kind of real-time chase because crowds, trains, tunnels, cameras and phones can make a huge city feel strangely claustrophobic. Gadot's physicality also makes the constant movement believable rather than merely a screenplay gimmick.

This is exactly the sort of uncomplicated high-concept thriller I want from streaming: recognizable star, clear stakes and a ticking clock. It is the first major Prime Video thriller of September and one of fall's easiest movie-night choices.

Where to watch: Stream The Runner on Prime Video from September 2.

Conclusion

Prime Video's fall 2026 thriller lineup is strongest when you look beyond one specific corner of the genre. The Runner gives you an immediate race-against-time movie, Carrie brings supernatural psychological horror into October, Neagley expands one of Amazon's biggest franchises, and The Terminal List turns James Reece's story into international espionage.

For a quick movie night, I would start with The Runner. If you want something darker for October, Carrie is easily one of the season's most intriguing projects, while The Better Sister and Vanished work particularly well when you want mysteries built around secrets rather than explosions.

But The Terminal List Season 2 is my biggest Prime Video thriller recommendation for fall 2026. The first season established Reece; the second has the opportunity to build a much larger espionage world around him while finally asking what remains after revenge.

Now it is your turn. Which Prime Video thriller are you watching first, and what would you move to No. 1?

FAQs About Prime Video Thrillers for Fall 2026

1. What is the best Prime Video thriller for fall 2026?

The Terminal List Season 2 is my most anticipated overall Prime Video thriller for fall 2026. Chris Pratt returns as James Reece in an eight-episode story based on Jack Carr's True Believer, expanding the series from personal revenge into international espionage. All eight episodes arrive October 21.

2. What new Prime Video thriller comes out in September 2026?

The Runner arrives September 2, followed by In the Grey on September 9 and Neagley on September 16. That gives September a strong mixture of psychological suspense, action-heist thrills and investigative crime, with Gal Gadot and Maria Sten leading two of the month's biggest Prime Video releases.

3. Is Neagley a Reacher spinoff?

Yes. Neagley stars Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, the former member of the Army's 110th Special Investigations Unit who has repeatedly assisted Jack Reacher. The eight-episode series follows her own investigation after a friend dies suspiciously, while Alan Ritchson guest stars as Reacher.

4. When does Carrie come to Prime Video?

Mike Flanagan's Carrie premieres October 7, 2026, with all eight episodes arriving together on Prime Video. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White in the first television-series adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel, making it one of the platform's biggest horror releases for Halloween season.

5. What is The Runner about?

The Runner stars Gal Gadot as Maia Marten, a successful London lawyer whose son is kidnapped during her morning run. A mysterious caller orders Maia to continue moving through London and obey increasingly dangerous instructions, warning that her son will die if she stops or contacts anyone.

6. Is Reacher Season 4 streaming on Prime Video?

Yes. Reacher Season 4 began streaming in August 2026, with episodes continuing through the September 16 finale. The season adapts Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow and follows Jack Reacher into a dangerous conspiracy after a disturbing encounter with a stranger on a subway.

7. What Prime Video thriller should I watch for Halloween?

Carrie is the obvious choice for Halloween 2026 because Mike Flanagan is adapting Stephen King's supernatural horror story as an eight-episode series. For something more physically frightening, The Devil's Mouth provides claustrophobic cave survival, while 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is the choice for viewers who want brutal post-apocalyptic horror.

8. What is the best Prime Video mystery series to binge?

The Better Sister is an excellent complete binge if you enjoy domestic murder mysteries, while Vanished is even shorter at four episodes. Action fans should wait for Neagley, whose entire eight-episode first season arrives at once on September 16.

9. Are these Prime Video thrillers included with Amazon Prime?

The Prime Originals highlighted here are available through Prime Video as part of an eligible Prime or Prime Video membership, although catalogues and subscription arrangements can vary between countries. Always check the title page in your region before watching because licensed movie availability can change.

10. What should I watch after The Terminal List?

Start with The Terminal List: Dark Wolf if you have not already watched the prequel focusing on Ben Edwards. Reacher is the strongest alternative if you want another tough military protagonist investigating conspiracies, while Citadel is better for viewers who want international espionage, gadgets and a larger spy mythology.

Episode of the Week

That Love Podcast presents: American Bollywood — Episode 5

Format/Genre: A hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age audio rom-com about first love, fake dating, friendship, secret crushes and discovering that sometimes the people who truly see you have been watching all along.

Logline: With only hours to find a fake boyfriend for her double date with Miles Pires Shah, Izzy Lopez turns to Selina for help — and what begins as a ridiculous school-wide search unexpectedly reveals just how many people have been quietly noticing Izzy for years.

Izzy Lopez has created a boyfriend who does not exist, Miles Pires Shah expects to meet him that evening, and Selina has decided there is only one reasonable solution: find a real boy willing to play the part. Her search leads to Mason Ramos and Jake Geller, two book-loving classmates who reveal that they have both secretly liked Izzy for years and are remarkably enthusiastic about competing for the position.

Selina transforms an empty classroom into a bizarre game show where Mason and Jake must prove who knows Izzy best. What begins as a ridiculous competition quickly becomes increasingly unsettling as both boys demonstrate an astonishing knowledge of Izzy’s favourite books, movies, habits and embarrassing secrets — leaving Izzy to discover that she may not have been nearly as invisible as she always believed.

The questions become more personal until Selina asks something neither boy can answer with simple facts: what has Izzy wanted to feel more than anything since she was fourteen? Mason’s answer cuts through Izzy’s jokes and books and gets frighteningly close to the truth — she wants to know that she is enough exactly as she is, without having to perform or transform herself for somebody else.

With the double date getting closer and Miles waiting to meet a boyfriend who was invented less than a day earlier, Izzy finally has someone willing to step into the role. But the line between pretending and genuinely caring may already be much messier than she expected, especially when her chosen fake boyfriend has feelings that are anything but fake.

American Bollywood Episode 5 delivers romantic comedy, fake-dating chaos and surprising emotional depth as Izzy’s plan to make Miles finally see her raises an uncomfortable new question: what happens when someone else already does?
