10 Funniest Schitt’s Creek Moments, Ranked
Schitt’s Creek is one of the funniest sitcoms of the last decade, and its best jokes often come from small, perfectly timed moments. A single line delivery or a wobbly musical number can make you laugh for days. The trouble is that with six seasons of material, picking the funniest scenes is harder than it sounds. You want a list that captures the show's sharpest comedy and reminds you why you fell for it in the first place.
This ranking gives you ten of the funniest moments from the Roses' time in Schitt's Creek. You will find a drunk television commercial, a kitchen argument about cheese, a terrible audition and a few moments that are funny because the characters are so completely themselves. Each entry explains the setup, why the moment lands and why it sits in its position.
So what makes a Schitt's Creek moment funny? For me, it starts with character. The best jokes come from people behaving exactly the way they always do, even when it makes things worse.
The second thing I look for is timing. A pause, a glance or a line delivered a beat too late can turn a good scene into a great one. The third is commitment. The cast never winks at the camera, and that is a big reason these scenes still work.
It is also worth saying that the funniest moment is a matter of taste. Some people love Moira's theatrical nonsense, while others laugh hardest at David's exasperation. I have tried to explain each ranking clearly, so you can see the reasoning and decide for yourself whether you agree.
Ranking comedy moments is always personal, and you may have a different order in your head. What you will get here is a clear explanation for every position, so you can see why each moment sits where it does.
Each entry starts with the setup, so you know what is happening before you read my opinion. After that comes the reasoning behind its ranking, followed by who will enjoy it most. Think of it as a friend who has quoted the show at dinner parties for years and wants to share the best bits.
One practical tip before you start. If you have not seen the show, these moments may spoil small jokes, so start with the first season. If you are rewatching, pick a few favourites and enjoy the callbacks. Either way, the right moment is the one that makes you laugh out loud.

10. Moira Becomes Consumed by The Crows Have Eyes III
Moira travels to Bosnia to film The Crows Have Eyes III: The Crowening, a horror sequel she hopes will revive her acting career. The film is a low-budget creature feature about mutant crows, and Moira takes it extremely seriously. The moment is funny because Moira treats a cheap horror movie as high art, and her commitment to the role is total. The conflict is her hopes for a comeback against the reality of the project, and the stakes are her sense of herself as an actress.
Catherine O'Hara makes every line count, from her accent to her intense dedication to the role. The show pays off the joke later when the film is shelved, and Moira's reaction is a comic highlight. It is a fun running gag, but it is more of a slow burn than a sharp laugh.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 10 because the commitment is funny and the callbacks are satisfying, but the laughs are more gradual than the moments above it. It beats the bottom of the list because O'Hara's performance is so committed, while it falls behind the top nine because its jokes are less immediate.
Who should watch: Fans of Moira and anyone who enjoys comedy built on a character taking her work far too seriously.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.

9. Alexis's Bizarre Past Adventures
Alexis has a long history of international escapades, and the Roses are often left trying to make sense of them. Her stories are wildly over the top, and the family's reactions are always the best part. The moment is funny because the Roses try to take her seriously while clearly having no idea what she is talking about. The conflict is the family's confusion against Alexis's confidence, and the stakes are a few awkward silences and a lot of laughter.
Annie Murphy is brilliant at selling Alexis's outrageous claims with complete sincerity. The rest of the family's bewildered reactions give the scenes their rhythm. It is a reliable source of laughs, but it is a little less sharp than the more focused scenes on this list.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 9 because the joke is consistent and well played, but it is more of a running gag than a single standout scene. It beats the bottom eight because it is so reliably funny, while it falls behind the top eight because its punchlines are less memorable.
Who should watch: Fans of Annie Murphy and anyone who enjoys a character whose stories never quite add up.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.
8. David's Driving Test Panic
David has to retake his driving test, and his anxiety escalates to comic heights. He is convinced he will fail, and his nerves turn a simple test into a full-blown meltdown. The moment is funny because David's reactions are so exaggerated, and Dan Levy plays each beat with precision. The conflict is David's fear against the test itself, and the stakes are his pride and his independence.
Dan Levy's physical comedy is a highlight, and his timing makes every outburst land. The scene works because it takes a small, relatable fear and blows it up perfectly. It is a strong comedic set piece, but it sits just below the top moments because its humour is more contained.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 8 because it is a sharp, well-timed set piece, but its joke is smaller in scope than the moments above. It beats the bottom seven because Levy's performance is so committed, while it falls behind the top seven because its humour is less surprising.
Who should watch: Fans of David and anyone who has ever felt a little too anxious about a driving test.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.
7. Moira's Disastrous Jazzagals Audition
Moira decides she wants to join Schitt's Creek's a cappella group, the Jazzagals, and insists on a special showcase rather than a normal audition. She makes her case with extreme confidence, and her performance is far from the polished act she imagines. The moment is funny because Moira is so sure of herself that the audience can see the disaster coming from a mile away. The conflict is Moira's vanity against the reality of her talent, and the stakes are her standing in the town.
Catherine O'Hara's delivery is pitch-perfect, moving from theatrical confidence to visible panic. The scene works because it gives Moira room to show off and then lets her fall flat. It is a clever, character-driven joke, but it lacks the bigger laughs of the moments above it.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 7 because it is a well-built character joke, but its punchlines are more gradual than the scenes above it. It beats the bottom six because its character comedy is so sharp, while it falls behind the top six because its laughs are less immediate.
Who should watch: Fans of Moira and anyone who enjoys comedy built on vanity and an audition that goes wrong.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.
6. David Lip-Syncs "Simply the Best" for Patrick
David surprises Patrick with a lip-sync to "Simply the Best" as a romantic gesture, and the whole thing is delightfully over the top. The moment is funny because David's commitment to the performance is huge, and Patrick's reactions are perfectly judged. The conflict is the couple's romance against David's extravagant sense of drama, and the stakes are the simple joy of getting the gesture right.
Dan Levy and Noah Reid are a joy together, and the performance is both funny and sweet. The song choice gives the scene a big, bold energy. It is a lovely moment, but it sits lower than the top five because its punchlines land more softly than the biggest jokes.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 6 because the lip-sync is charming and funny, but its comedy is warmer than the sharper moments above it. It beats the bottom five because its romance is so sweet, while it falls behind the top five because its laughs are gentler.
Who should watch: Fans of the David and Patrick romance and anyone who enjoys a grand, over-the-top romantic gesture.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.

5. Moira Struggles to Pronounce Everyday Words
Moira has a habit of mangling everyday words, and her confident mispronunciations become a running joke. In one of the show's earliest examples, she delivers words with total conviction and no accuracy. The moment is funny because Moira never admits she is wrong, and the family's reactions make the joke land. The conflict is Moira's pride against her own vocabulary, and the stakes are the family's patience.
Catherine O'Hara's commitment to each mispronunciation is hilarious, and the writing lets her find a new angle every time. It is a sharp character joke with a memorable rhythm. It sits just outside the top five because it is a running gag rather than a single peak moment.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 5 because it is a consistently funny character joke, but it works better as a running gag than as a single scene. It beats the bottom four because its rhythm is so distinctive, while it falls behind the top four because its laughs are spread across many scenes.
Who should watch: Fans of Moira and anyone who enjoys a character who refuses to admit she has made a mistake.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.
4. David Hides With an Amish Family
When David disappears in the season two premiere, the family finally finds him in an unlikely place: staying with an Amish family who are eager for him to leave. The moment is funny because David's attempts to fit in are so awkward, and the family's bewilderment is perfectly played. The conflict is David's need to escape his own life against the family's search for him, and the stakes are his safety and the family's bond.
The episode gives the cast plenty of room for physical comedy and awkward exchanges. David's frustration makes the scene sing, and the reveal lands with real laughter. It is a strong comedic set piece, but it sits behind the top three because it relies more on setup than on a single perfect line.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 4 because its premise is funny and its reveal lands well, but it is less sharp than the three moments above it. It beats the bottom three because its situation is so unexpected, while it falls behind the top three because its laughs are more spread out.
Who should watch: Fans of David and anyone who enjoys a comedy about an overconfident character caught out in a strange situation.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.
3. Alexis Performs "A Little Bit Alexis"
Alexis auditions for the Schitt's Creek production of Cabaret with a song from her "critically reviewed" reality show. Annie Murphy performs the song with total seriousness, and the result is one of the most quoted scenes in the show. The moment is funny because Alexis is so sure of herself, and the song's lyrics are outrageously catchy. The conflict is Alexis's ambition against her lack of talent, and the stakes are her chance to be in the show.
Annie Murphy co-wrote the song and delivers it with complete conviction, and the audience's reactions give the scene its punch. The song has become a fan favourite in its own right. It is one of the show's most iconic comic moments, and it sits just behind the top two because the fold-in-the-cheese scene is a more perfect piece of comedy.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 3 because it is an unforgettable comedic performance and a fan favourite, but it is a little more of a set piece than the perfect moment at number 2. It beats the bottom two because its humour is so memorable, while it falls behind the top two because its laughs are less tightly built.
Why critics admire it: Many critics single out the scene for Annie Murphy's performance and the song's infectious lyrics.
Who should watch: Fans of Annie Murphy and anyone who enjoys a musical number that is funny because it is completely sincere.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.
2. "Fold in the Cheese"
David and Moira make enchiladas together, and Moira keeps telling David to "fold in the cheese" without explaining what it means. The moment is funny because neither of them knows what it means, and the argument spirals into a perfectly escalating kitchen meltdown. The conflict is David's frustration against Moira's refusal to admit she does not know the recipe, and the stakes are dinner itself.
Catherine O'Hara and Dan Levy are a flawless comedy pair in this scene. The writing is simple, and the escalation is perfectly paced. It is one of the most quoted moments in the show, and its popularity has lasted far beyond the episode.
Why it ranks here: It sits at number 2 because it is a near-perfect comic scene, with tight writing and brilliant performances. It nearly takes the top spot, but Herb Ertlinger's commercial is funnier and more layered.
Why critics admire it: Many critics and fans single out the scene as one of the strongest comedy moments in the series.
Who should watch: Anyone who loves a sharp, character-driven comedy scene and fans of Moira and David.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.
1. Moira Films the Herb Ertlinger Fruit-Wine Commercial
Moira is hired to appear in a commercial for a local fruit-wine maker, Herb Ertlinger. She has clearly been sampling the product, and the result is a glorious, slurring performance. The moment is funny because Moira is so determined to keep her composure while visibly falling apart. The conflict is Moira's dignity against her own drunken confidence, and the stakes are her reputation in the town.
Catherine O'Hara is at her very best here, playing drunk with perfect control and an unforgettable accent. The scene works because it balances physical comedy with character, and every line lands. It is the funniest moment on this list, and it earns its place at the top.
Why it ranks here: It takes the number 1 spot because it combines the strongest performance, the most layered character comedy and the most memorable visual gags on this list. Fold in the Cheese is a close second, but Herb Ertlinger's commercial has more layers of comedy, which is why it beats everything else here.
Why fans and critics love it: It is widely praised as one of Catherine O'Hara's finest comic moments, and many viewers rank it as the show's funniest scene.
Who should watch: Anyone who loves character-driven comedy and a performance that is both silly and precise.
Where to watch: Check Netflix or your preferred streaming service for the current listing.

Final Thoughts
Looking back over the list, a few patterns stand out. The funniest Schitt's Creek moments come from characters who refuse to change, even when the world around them is falling apart. Moira's confidence, David's exasperation and Alexis's self-belief recur across the list.
Different viewers will land on different favourites. If you love Moira, the commercial and the audition are the places to start. For David's comedy, the driving test and the Amish reveal are perfect. If you want a song that stays in your head, Alexis's audition is hard to beat.
Herb Ertlinger's commercial stays at the top because it does nearly everything a comedy scene should. Its performance is perfect, its jokes layer neatly and it is still a delight to rewatch. It is the moment I would recommend first to anyone who has not yet fallen for the show.
Now I would love to hear from you. Which Schitt’s Creek moment made you laugh the hardest? Do you agree with the order, or would you move something up or down?
And if I missed a moment that deserves a higher place, tell me in the comments. I am always looking for the next scene to quote.
