20. Furious
I was not expecting Furious to become one of the more interesting crime dramas of the summer. The Hulu series stars Emmy Rossum as FBI agent Alice Black, who is hunting a mysterious female serial killer played by Lola Petticrew. The basic setup sounds familiar, but the show gives the cat-and-mouse story a darker emotional edge.

The series also benefits from its lighter tone. It still contains violence and political danger, but it is more interested in the strange humour of everyday life. The show understands that Westeros can be compelling even when nobody is attempting to conquer the entire continent.
Fans of the original franchise will enjoy the connections, but you do not need to remember every noble family to appreciate the story. This is a road adventure with fantasy elements, strong character chemistry and enough danger to keep the journey moving.

11. Widow’s Bay
Widow’s Bay is one of 2026’s genuine breakout surprises. The Apple TV comedy-horror series stars Matthew Rhys as a small-town mayor trying to revive his struggling island community, only to discover that the locals may have been right about the island being cursed.
The premise sounds like a strange blend of Parks and Recreation, folk horror and a very bad tourism campaign. The limited-series format suits the material. The story is focused, and the pressure increases as the audition process continues. Ahmed’s performance keeps the series from becoming a collection of industry jokes because Shah remains emotionally vulnerable beneath the satire.
Bait is a good choice for viewers who enjoy show-business dramas, British comedy and stories about actors trying to survive an industry built on rejection. It is not a glossy fantasy about becoming famous. It is much more interested in what fame asks people to surrender.

9. Rivals — Season 2
Rivals returns with the same mixture of romance, ambition, scandal and spectacularly bad decisions that made the first season so addictive. Set against the world of television broadcasting, the Disney+ and Hulu drama is filled with people who have money, power and absolutely no ability to behave sensibly.
The second season improves on the first because the characters are now established enough for the mess to become more personal. Rivalries are no longer simply about professional competition. They are connected to marriage, desire, family history and the fear of becoming irrelevant.
The performances remain deliciously exaggerated without turning the show into parody. The series understands that its characters are ridiculous, but it also knows why they behave this way. Their worst decisions usually grow from recognisable emotions: jealousy, insecurity, loneliness or the desire to be wanted.
The romance is particularly effective because it refuses to remain tidy. People fall for the wrong people, betray people they love and then expect forgiveness because they have finally become honest. Sam Reid remains the major attraction. His Lestat is seductive, funny, vain and often completely impossible to defend. The performance works because Reid never asks the audience to approve of Lestat. He asks us to understand why other people find him impossible to resist.
The series continues the gothic tradition of Interview with the Vampire while shifting the focus toward Lestat’s own version of events. That perspective is inherently unreliable, which gives the drama a constant tension. We are watching someone tell his story while knowing that he is probably editing the truth.
The production design and music create a rich atmosphere without allowing the show to become a costume display. The darkness feels emotional as well as visual. Every ballroom, mansion and candlelit room seems to be hiding some form of betrayal.
This is a demanding show, but it is also intensely watchable. It is best for viewers who enjoy gothic romance, complicated supernatural characters and stories where love and possession are dangerously close together.

7. Bridgerton — Season 4
Netflix’s Bridgerton remains one of the biggest romantic television shows in the world, and Season 4 gives viewers the Benedict Bridgerton love story they have been waiting for. Luke Thompson plays Benedict opposite Yerin Ha as Sophie Baek, a resourceful woman whose life is far removed from the privileged world of the ton.
The season works because Benedict’s romantic journey is not just another version of the earlier stories. He has spent years avoiding the idea of settling down, preferring freedom, art and flirtation. Sophie forces him to confront the difference between enjoying romance as a fantasy and accepting the responsibilities of real love.
Yerin Ha gives Sophie strength without making her invulnerable. Sophie is capable, practical and used to surviving difficult circumstances, but the show also allows her to want tenderness. That balance makes her an appealing lead rather than simply a character designed to challenge Benedict.
The production remains lavish, with grand balls, elaborate costumes and the modern pop-song covers that have become part of the series’ identity. The subplot problem is still present in places, but the central romance has enough chemistry to carry the season.

6. X-Men ’97 — Season 2
X-Men ’97 continues to prove that superhero animation can be emotionally ambitious without losing the fun. Season 2 picks up the story of the mutant team as they face political danger, personal conflict and a future that becomes increasingly difficult to control.
The show works because it treats the X-Men as a family before it treats them as superheroes. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Beast and the rest of the team all have individual emotional pressures, and the action matters because it threatens relationships that viewers already care about.
The animation remains bright, expressive and faithful to the spirit of the original series while giving the characters more freedom to move and react. The show can deliver a huge action sequence and then follow it with a quiet conversation that lands harder than the battle.

The second season of BEEF takes the boldest possible approach to an anthology follow-up: it starts again with a completely new story. The new season does not copy the exact structure of the first. Instead, it keeps the central idea that people can become obsessed with conflict because conflict gives their lives shape. These characters are not simply angry at one another. They are using anger to avoid admitting what they want.
The performances are excellent across the board. Isaac and Mulligan bring tension to every conversation, while Melton and Spaeny add a younger, more volatile energy. The relationships are complicated enough that you may understand why people are behaving badly without forgiving them for it.
The show remains darkly funny, but the comedy often arrives at the worst possible moment. That is very much the point. BEEF understands that people can be absurd and devastating at the same time.
The anthology reset works because the show is interested in emotional patterns rather than one specific couple. It asks how resentment moves through families, marriages and social classes. Netflix has also highlighted the season’s strong awards attention, including 16 Emmy nominations.

4. The Bear — Season 5
The Bear Season 5 feels like a final attempt to return to the nerve and intimacy that made the series so powerful in the first place. Jeremy Allen White remains outstanding as Carmy, but the season is strongest when it refuses to make him the only important character. Sydney, Richie, Natalie, Tina and Marcus all have their own ideas about what the restaurant should become, and those competing visions give the season its dramatic energy.
The kitchen remains a place of pressure, but the show is less interested in chaos for its own sake. The best episodes understand that stress can come from a quiet decision, an unanswered message or a person choosing not to repeat the mistake they have made for years.
The final season also benefits from a greater sense of purpose. The show is not simply asking whether the restaurant will succeed. It is asking whether these characters can build a future that is not controlled by grief, pride or the need to prove themselves.

3. Industry — Season 4
At this point, Industry has completely escaped the shadow of Succession. The HBO drama has become its own particular kind of television: fast, cruel, sexually charged and so stressful that watching an episode can feel like accepting a job you already know you will hate.
Season 4 continues the financial and personal battles surrounding Harper, Yasmin and the wider world of power, money and ambition. The series remains interested in business, but you do not need to understand every financial detail to feel the tension. The characters are constantly making decisions that could destroy their careers, relationships or sense of identity.
Myha’la remains magnetic as Harper. She is brilliant, manipulative and often emotionally impossible to read, yet the show never removes her humanity. Marisa Abela’s Yasmin provides a very different kind of power, one shaped by privilege, performance and the constant fear of losing control.
The season also benefits from new pressures and new alliances. People who once seemed untouchable are forced to adapt, while characters who spent years reacting to power finally begin trying to create it.
Industry is not comforting television, but it is addictive. The dialogue snaps, the performances are exceptional and the show understands that ambition is rarely separate from insecurity.

2. Silo — Season 3
Silo remains one of Apple TV’s flagship science-fiction series because it understands that the central mystery only matters when the characters feel real. Season 3 continues the story of Juliette Nichols and the underground communities trapped inside a world governed by secrets, surveillance and carefully controlled information.
Rebecca Ferguson gives the series its strongest performance. Juliette is not a traditional action hero who knows exactly what to do. She is inventive, frightened and frequently forced to improvise. Her determination works because it is connected to people she loves rather than to a vague desire to uncover the truth.
The season expands the world without losing the emotional pressure of the original premise. There are new discoveries, new threats and further questions about what exists beyond the silo, but the best scenes still involve people deciding whether they can trust one another.

1. The Pitt — Season 2

The second season proves that the success of the first was not a fluke. The show continues to use real-time pressure, crowded hospital corridors and difficult ethical decisions to create drama without needing elaborate twists. A case can begin as a routine emergency and become emotionally devastating within minutes.
Wyle gives one of the year’s strongest performances. His character is experienced, but experience does not make the job easier. It simply means he understands how much can go wrong and how many people are relying on him to stay functional.
The ensemble is equally important. The Pitt does not treat nurses and junior doctors as background figures. Every member of the department has their own pressure, personality and breaking point. The hospital feels like a system held together by people who are exhausted but still trying.
