10 Movies to Watch If You Love The Incredibles

16 min read

Finding another animated superhero movie with the same mix of thrilling action, sharp comedy and believable family tension as The Incredibles can be a challenge. This countdown brings together ten movies to watch if you love the Parr family, from high-school heroes and awkward supervillains to a team of young friends saving a futuristic city.

Brad Bird’s 2004 Pixar film works because it treats superhero life as a family problem. Bob Parr misses the excitement of being Mr. Incredible, Helen is trying to keep everyone safe, Violet would rather disappear, Dash has energy to spare, and baby Jack-Jack is—well, full of surprises. The action is terrific, but the relationships make it stick. Disney’s official Incredibles page (https://www.disneyplus.com/en-gb/browse/entity-850b6e92-07ea-4211-b3c3-cbbf1de045fa) describes the movie as a family adventure in which saving the world takes a super-family effort.

The films below do not all feature superheroes in the same way. Some are animated comic-book adventures; others focus on young people discovering powers, outsiders learning to become heroes, or unlikely teams finding their rhythm. What connects them is the appeal of The Incredibles: distinctive characters, imaginative action, humour that works for adults and children, and a reminder that heroes are more interesting when they have people to care about.

Your list runs from #1 as the top pick to #10, so this article presents it as a countdown from #10 to #1. Streaming notes are for the UK and can change; use the linked listings to check what is available where you live.

10. The Lego Batman Movie (2017)

Batman may be a lone wolf, but The Lego Batman Movie quickly discovers that even Gotham’s most dramatic resident could use a little help. This animated superhero comedy is a great fit if you enjoy The Incredibles’ mix of action, family friction and jokes that land differently depending on your age.

Will Arnett’s Batman is happy to work alone, eat alone and watch movies alone—until the Joker’s latest scheme makes him confront the possibility that he has pushed everyone away. After accidentally adopting orphan Dick Grayson, Batman finds himself with an enthusiastic young sidekick, while Barbara Gordon takes charge as Gotham’s new police commissioner. The city’s fate depends on whether he can learn to work with other people.

The film races through Batman history and pop culture with an avalanche of visual gags, but the central character arc is surprisingly sincere. Batman’s fear of losing people is played for laughs, yet the movie understands that his self-protective habits leave him lonely. Michael Cera makes Robin wonderfully earnest, and Zach Galifianakis gives the Joker an unexpectedly vulnerable edge.

This ranks tenth because it leans more heavily on references and rapid-fire comedy than The Incredibles. But if you love superhero stories that poke fun at their own heroes while still caring about them, this is a bright, funny place to start.

Where to watch: UK listings currently include NOW TV Cinema and HBO Max. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/the-lego-batman-movie) for current options.

9. Astro Boy (2009)

Astro Boy gives its young hero extraordinary powers, but its strongest connection to The Incredibles is the way it asks what a hero owes to the people around him. This 2009 animated science-fiction adventure pairs robot action with a story about family, grief and finding a place where you belong.

In a futuristic city, scientist Dr. Tenma creates Astro—a powerful robot modeled on the son he has lost. Tenma struggles to accept Astro as his child, and the young robot is eventually cast out of Metro City. As Astro travels through a rougher world below, he encounters other robots and humans, learns what his abilities can do, and faces the danger threatening the city above.

Freddie Highmore voices Astro with a gentle earnestness that suits the character’s uncertainty. The film’s flying sequences and mechanical battles give it the scale of a classic superhero movie, while its quieter scenes focus on the ache of wanting approval from a parent. That emotional thread is more affecting than some of the broader comedy around it.

At number nine, Astro Boy is not as tightly balanced as Pixar’s best work, but it is a worthwhile choice for viewers who like animated superhero origin stories with a family theme. Its central hero is powerful, but the story keeps returning to the more difficult question: what makes someone a person worth caring about?

Where to watch: No UK streaming option is currently listed. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/astro-boy) for changes.

8. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)

The Parr children have superpowers; the teenage turtles have shells, martial arts training and an enormous desire to fit in. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is a lively animated superhero film for anyone who likes watching young characters figure out how to use their differences without letting those differences define them.

Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael have grown up hidden from the humans of New York. They dream of being accepted by the city’s teenagers, so they set out to prove that they can be heroes. Their attempt to win public trust becomes more complicated when a group of other mutants enters the picture and a much larger threat begins to take shape.

The movie’s hand-drawn, sketchbook-like animation makes it feel scrappy and immediate. The four brothers are not interchangeable action figures: each has a distinct comic rhythm, and their sibling bickering sounds recognisably teenage. Ayo Edebiri brings warmth to April O’Neil, and the film gives the turtles a convincing reason to want a normal life even as they leap across rooftops.

It sits at number eight because its coming-of-age story is stronger than its plot mechanics. That is also why it suits fans of The Incredibles: the excitement comes from watching a team learn to trust one another. It is a colourful family movie, although younger viewers sensitive to noisy action may appreciate a little warning.

Where to watch: UK listings currently show rental and purchase options. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-the-next-chapter) for the latest.

7. DC League of Super-Pets (2022)

If you want superhero action with less angst and more dogs, DC League of Super-Pets is the obvious family movie-night pick. It swaps the Parrs for a team of animals and takes the superhero team-up formula in a silly, accessible direction.

Krypto is Superman’s loyal superdog, and he is used to having his best friend’s attention. When the Justice League is captured, Krypto has to team up with shelter animals—including Ace the hound, PB the pig, Merton the turtle and Chip the squirrel—to rescue them. The new group has to learn how its powers work before it can take on the threat.

Dwayne Johnson voices Krypto with just enough heroic confidence to make his insecurity funny, while Kevin Hart gives Ace a dry, sceptical charm. The film’s best jokes come from the animals’ different personalities and from the contrast between superhero grandiosity and everyday pet behaviour. It is not as emotionally layered as The Incredibles, but it has an appealing message about teamwork and being valued for more than your abilities.

At number seven, this is the lightest and most straightforward entry so far. It is a good choice for younger viewers who enjoy comic-book heroes but would rather watch a playful adventure than a complicated origin story.

Where to watch: UK listings currently include NOW TV Cinema and HBO Max. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/dc-league-of-super-pets) for current availability.

6. Bolt (2008)

Bolt begins as a superhero story, then asks what happens when the hero learns that his powers are make-believe. That twist gives the film a different angle from The Incredibles, while keeping the same interest in courage, loyalty and what it means to protect someone.

Bolt is a dog who stars in a television series where he believes his superpowers are real. He thinks he must keep his human companion, Penny, safe from the show’s villains. When he is accidentally shipped away from the studio, Bolt has to cross the country to find her—with only a cynical cat named Mittens and a devoted hamster named Rhino for company.

John Travolta gives Bolt a convincing mix of confidence and confusion, and Susie Essman’s Mittens is a funny, prickly counterpoint. Mark Walton makes Rhino’s superhero fandom ridiculous in the best way. The road-trip structure gives the film room to slow down and let the characters change, while its action scenes send up the conventions of superhero television without making the story feel cynical.

It ranks sixth because its emotional journey is warmer than its villains or set pieces are memorable. Still, Bolt is a strong animated adventure for anyone who likes heroic characters discovering that bravery is about what they choose to do, not what they can do.

Where to watch: The UK listing currently shows Disney+. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/bolt) for updates.

5. The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021)

The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021)

A family that cannot quite communicate is pulled into a crisis that only they can solve: that is a premise The Incredibles fans already understand. The Mitchells vs. the Machines turns it into a frenetic animated comedy about a road trip, a robot uprising and the small, stubborn ways a family tries to show it cares.

Katie Mitchell is an aspiring filmmaker about to leave home for college. Her dad, Rick, worries that they have grown apart, so he plans one final family road trip. Their journey is interrupted when a technology company’s machines turn against humanity. Suddenly, Katie, Rick, her mother Linda, her brother Aaron and their dog Monchi are the unlikely team that has to stop the takeover.

The film’s visual style is one of its greatest strengths. Doodles, captions and phone-screen effects appear inside the animation, reflecting Katie’s creative point of view and giving the action a loose, handmade energy. The family members’ different personalities make the jokes feel specific, while the tension between Katie and Rick gives the adventure genuine emotional stakes.

At number five, it is one of the closest recommendations for The Incredibles because the family is not magically harmonious. They bicker, misunderstand one another and still show up when it matters. The robot battles are exciting, but the heart of the movie is a father learning to listen and a daughter recognising the love behind his clumsy attempts.

Where to watch: The UK listing currently shows Netflix. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/the-mitchells-vs-the-machines) for current options.

4. Sky High (2005)

Sky High is basically a superhero family movie that spends more time at school. Will Stronghold is the son of two famous heroes, but he has not discovered his own powers when he arrives at a school for young superheroes. That makes the film a natural recommendation for fans of the Parr children’s coming-of-age stories.

Will’s parents are the Commander and Jetstream, so expectations are high. At Sky High, students are sorted into heroes or sidekicks, and Will lands in the less glamorous group. He befriends classmates who are underestimated or misunderstood while trying to work out where he belongs. When a threat to the school emerges, the students’ labels turn out to matter far less than their courage and resourcefulness.

Michael Angarano plays Will as a likable kid under pressure, and Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston bring an easy warmth to his superhero parents. The school setting gives the film a playful way to explore cliques, identity and teenage insecurity. Its effects are modest by modern standards, but the comic-book colours and earnest tone have aged into a big part of its charm.

It ranks fourth because it is less visually ambitious than the animated picks above it, but the premise is terrific and the ensemble is fun. If you like the balance in The Incredibles between family expectations and superhero action, this is an enjoyable live-action alternative.

Where to watch: The UK listing currently shows Disney+. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/sky-high) for changes.

3. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is one of the most inventive animated superhero movies of its era, and it has a lot in common with The Incredibles: action that feels carefully staged, a distinctive visual world and a young hero learning that the job cannot be done alone.

Miles Morales is a Brooklyn teenager trying to find his place at a new school when a spider bite gives him unexpected powers. After a collider experiment brings several Spider-heroes into his dimension, Miles becomes part of a team trying to stop the Kingpin from tearing open reality. He has to learn what being Spider-Man means while working alongside people who already know the job.

Shameik Moore gives Miles a relaxed, funny voice that gradually gains confidence. Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker is a weary, messy mentor, while Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy brings poise and emotional complexity. The animation borrows the movement, texture and visual language of comic books, making the film feel unlike a standard computer-animated feature. Its style is exhilarating, but its real power comes from Miles’s growth and the idea that heroism can belong to someone new.

At number three, it is the most visually daring film on this list. If you love The Incredibles for the superhero action but want a more comic-book-inspired animation style and a coming-of-age story, Miles’s first big-screen adventure is an easy must-watch. For more, read our feature on the film’s superhero storytelling (https://www.thatlovepodcast.com/post/spider-man-into-the-spider-verse-a-dazzling-triumph-of-creativity-and-heart).

Where to watch: UK listings currently include Amazon Prime Video, Sky Go and NOW TV Cinema. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/spider-man-into-the-spider-verse) for current options.

2. Megamind (2010)

Megamind (2010)

Megamind begins after the superhero story has already ended. The villain has won, his rival is gone and the city is his—but he soon discovers that victory is not very satisfying when there is nobody left to challenge him. It is a clever, funny twist on the superhero genre that The Incredibles’ fans can enjoy for its action and its interest in what makes a hero.

Megamind is a blue-skinned alien genius who has spent years battling Metro Man. When he finally defeats his enemy, he realises that being the city’s ruler has left him bored and without purpose. He creates a new superhero to give himself a worthy opponent, but the experiment produces a dangerous figure instead. Megamind has to decide whether he can become the hero Metro City needs.

Will Ferrell gives Megamind theatrical flair without making him one-note, and Tina Fey’s Roxanne Ritchi brings wit and independence to the story. David Cross is especially funny as Minion, Megamind’s loyal companion. The film’s greatest joke is also its central idea: being labelled a villain does not mean you are incapable of making a better choice.

At number two, Megamind is a strong pick for anyone who wants superhero action with a comic twist and an outsider who grows into responsibility. Its animation is less polished than the top entries, but its premise, voice cast and playful approach to hero-versus-villain rules make it memorable.

Where to watch: UK listings currently show digital rental and purchase options. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/megamind) for updates.

1. Big Hero 6 (2014)

Big Hero 6 (2014)

Big Hero 6 takes the top spot because it combines the qualities that make The Incredibles such a satisfying superhero movie: a distinctive team, big action, jokes with real character behind them and a story about family that carries genuine emotional weight.

Hiro Hamada is a brilliant teenager who has more interest in robot fights than in using his talent for something meaningful. After a personal tragedy, he discovers that his late brother Tadashi’s inflatable healthcare robot, Baymax, is still there to help him. Hiro and Baymax join forces with Tadashi’s friends—Go Go, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred—to investigate a masked figure and protect San Fransokyo.

Ryan Potter gives Hiro a believable mix of restless intelligence and grief, while Scott Adsit makes Baymax’s gentle literalness endlessly funny. The rest of the team each bring a distinct skill and personality, so the action feels like collaboration rather than a parade of individual powers. Baymax’s design is soft, simple and instantly lovable, but his role as a healthcare robot also shapes the film’s most tender scenes.

This is the best Incredibles follow-up because it makes heroism a team effort and gives the emotional story room to breathe. Big Hero 6 is a science-fiction adventure, a superhero origin story and a heartfelt tale about loss and healing. It is the first movie I would recommend if you want a family-friendly animated superhero film that can make you laugh, cheer and—fair warning—reach for a tissue.

Where to watch: The UK listing currently shows Disney+. Check JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk/movie/big-hero-6) for availability.

Conclusion

The best movies to watch if you love The Incredibles understand that a superhero is more compelling when there are people, relationships and responsibilities behind the costume. Sky High finds that idea in high school, The Mitchells vs. the Machines turns it into a family road trip, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse gives it a comic-book visual makeover.

For a light, funny watch with pets, try DC League of Super-Pets. For a more heartfelt team adventure, start with Big Hero 6. It earns the top position because it makes its heroes feel like friends and family first, then gives them an exciting reason to work together.

Episode of the Week

That Love Podcast presents: American Bollywood — Episode 5

Format/Genre: A hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age audio rom-com about first love, fake dating, friendship, secret crushes and discovering that sometimes the people who truly see you have been watching all along.

Logline: With only hours to find a fake boyfriend for her double date with Miles Pires Shah, Izzy Lopez turns to Selina for help — and what begins as a ridiculous school-wide search unexpectedly reveals just how many people have been quietly noticing Izzy for years.

Izzy Lopez has created a boyfriend who does not exist, Miles Pires Shah expects to meet him that evening, and Selina has decided there is only one reasonable solution: find a real boy willing to play the part. Her search leads to Mason Ramos and Jake Geller, two book-loving classmates who reveal that they have both secretly liked Izzy for years and are remarkably enthusiastic about competing for the position.

Selina transforms an empty classroom into a bizarre game show where Mason and Jake must prove who knows Izzy best. What begins as a ridiculous competition quickly becomes increasingly unsettling as both boys demonstrate an astonishing knowledge of Izzy’s favourite books, movies, habits and embarrassing secrets — leaving Izzy to discover that she may not have been nearly as invisible as she always believed.

The questions become more personal until Selina asks something neither boy can answer with simple facts: what has Izzy wanted to feel more than anything since she was fourteen? Mason’s answer cuts through Izzy’s jokes and books and gets frighteningly close to the truth — she wants to know that she is enough exactly as she is, without having to perform or transform herself for somebody else.

With the double date getting closer and Miles waiting to meet a boyfriend who was invented less than a day earlier, Izzy finally has someone willing to step into the role. But the line between pretending and genuinely caring may already be much messier than she expected, especially when her chosen fake boyfriend has feelings that are anything but fake.

American Bollywood Episode 5 delivers romantic comedy, fake-dating chaos and surprising emotional depth as Izzy’s plan to make Miles finally see her raises an uncomfortable new question: what happens when someone else already does?
