14 Fruity Sangrias to Make Your BBQ Shine and Your Summer Unforgettable

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is the best type of wine to use for sangria?

For red sangria, a dry, fruity Spanish wine like Tempranillo or Garnacha is a classic choice. For white sangria, opt for a crisp, unoaked wine like Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, or Albariño. You don't need to use an expensive bottle, but choose something you would enjoy drinking on its own. For more on this, check out this guide on choosing the right wine for sangria.

2. How long should I let my sangria sit before serving?

It's best to let your sangria chill in the refrigerator for at least 2-4 hours to allow the flavors of the fruit and spices to meld with the wine. Some red sangrias can even be made the day before for a more intense flavor.

3. Can I use frozen fruit in my sangria?

Absolutely! Frozen fruit is a great option, especially when your favorite fruits are out of season. It also helps to keep your sangria chilled without watering it down.

4. How can I make my sangria less alcoholic?

You can easily reduce the alcohol content by using less brandy or liqueur, or by omitting it altogether. You can also add more fruit juice or sparkling water to dilute the sangria.

5. What are some good food pairings for sangria?

Sangria's fruity and refreshing nature makes it a versatile partner for a variety of foods. It pairs wonderfully with classic Spanish tapas, grilled meats and vegetables, spicy dishes, and light summer salads. For a comprehensive guide, explore these food and sangria pairing ideas.

6. Can I make a non-alcoholic sangria?

Yes, and they can be just as delicious! Simply substitute the wine with a combination of fruit juices, such as grape juice, cranberry juice, or pomegranate juice, and top with sparkling water or ginger ale.

7. How should I store leftover sangria?

Store leftover sangria in a covered pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The fruit may become a bit soft, but the flavors will continue to develop.

8. What is the best way to make simple syrup for sangria?

To make simple syrup, combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved. Let it cool completely before using. For a detailed guide, check out this simple syrup recipe.
