10 Best Animated Comedy Series on Disney+, Ranked

16 min read

You open Disney+ looking for something funny, and suddenly you are choosing between decades of animated television: irreverent adult sitcoms, inventive science-fiction comedies and the kind of family cartoon you first watched years ago but still quote. This ranking makes that decision easier. These are the ten animated comedy series on Disney+ UK that most deserve your next evening.

The service has a particularly strong collection because “Disney animation” no longer means only one tone or age group. Springfield and Quahog sit alongside the Belchers, Planet Express and Disney Channel favourites. You can watch a series built around subtle family embarrassment, then switch to one where an alien spends the day arguing with his suburban household.

For this list, we focused on how funny each series is, how rewarding its characters remain across episodes and how easy it is to recommend for a particular mood. We did not rank by episode count or cultural fame alone. The top show is the one we think combines jokes, rewatch value and a fully realised comic world better than anything else in the catalogue.

We have also kept the word comedy important. Disney+ has plenty of excellent animated adventures, but a funny moment in an action series is not enough to turn it into one of the best animated comedies on the platform. Conversely, a show does not have to be aimed at adults to qualify. If its comic timing is great, it belongs in the conversation.

10. The Cleveland Show

Family in a cartoon living room stands by a green couch while a child faces a sitting dog near the stairs.

Cleveland Brown moving away from Quahog could have been a one-joke spin-off. Instead, The Cleveland Show gives him a different household, a different neighbourhood and a noticeably gentler role at the centre of the chaos. He returns to Stoolbend, Virginia, reconnects with Donna Tubbs and becomes part of a blended family whose personalities are rarely as relaxed as his own.

The show keeps some of Family Guy’s taste for digression and absurd supporting characters. A family disagreement can turn into an elaborate tangent, and the neighbourhood includes a bear who speaks as though that requires no explanation. Yet Cleveland’s easygoing nature changes the comic balance. He is often responding to the world rather than hurling himself into trouble as enthusiastically as Peter Griffin.

That distinction makes the series worth considering if you have spent enough time in Quahog to want a slight change of pace. Donna and the children give it an emotional centre, while the sillier elements keep it recognisably part of the same animated universe. It is not the sharpest or most inventive title in this ranking, which is why it starts our countdown, but familiarity can be a pleasure in its own right.

Watch it if: You like Family Guy and want a related animated family comedy with a softer lead.

Where to watch: Disney+ UK includes The Cleveland Show in its adult-animation guide. Check the current season listing before starting.

9. Solar Opposites

Four shocked cartoon aliens huddle together on a bright pink-yellow burst background as tiny purple creatures fly around.

The aliens of Solar Opposites have crash-landed in suburban America, where they cannot agree on a fairly basic question: is Earth wonderful or terrible? Korvo’s frustration with human life clashes with Terry’s enthusiasm for it, while Yumyulack, Jesse and the mysterious Pupa make their household even stranger.

It is a terrific sitcom setup because the characters do not merely visit an unfamiliar world. They have to live in it. Ordinary routines become opportunities for science-fiction disaster, and an alien’s reaction to an everyday human habit can be just as funny as a huge futuristic invention. The show is fast, colourful and very willing to let a ridiculous idea grow until the original household problem is almost unrecognisable.

Its separate story strands give it range, though they can also make the series feel less tidy than a straightforward half-hour family comedy. If you prefer every episode to follow one neat domestic problem, this may be a little wild. If you like animated series that can switch from suburban irritation to enormous absurdity without blinking, it is an excellent choice.

Solar Opposites earns No. 9 because its imagination is hard to resist. What keeps it below the higher-ranked shows is not a shortage of jokes, but the fact that their character worlds have become more consistently rewarding to return to.

Watch it if: You want adult animation with a dysfunctional household and science-fiction freedom.

8. Archer

Six adults in retro suits gather indoors; one seated woman holds a bottle while a blond man reads a paper, tense group mood.

Sterling Archer can survive dangerous missions. A normal workplace disagreement is another matter. The animated spy comedy follows Archer and an intelligence agency full of people whose rivalries, bad habits and emotional baggage repeatedly interfere with the work they are supposed to be doing.

The action is entertaining, but the dialogue is the reason to stay. An insult can ricochet around the room, turn into a running joke and resurface at the worst possible moment in a mission. Archer’s confidence makes him an ideal comic lead because it so often exceeds his judgment. His colleagues can challenge him, enable him or derail him, sometimes within the same conversation.

What I enjoy most is how thoroughly the show understands that the agency is a workplace. Characters carry their professional resentments into car chases and international crises. A briefing becomes an argument; the argument becomes the story. That is a different flavour from a family sitcom, and it makes Archer one of the platform’s best choices when you want something sharper and more verbally demanding.

Its long run changes settings and emphasis, so I would not recommend dropping into a random later episode. Start early, learn the ensemble and let the recurring jokes accumulate. At its best, the pace is almost exhausting—in a good way.

Watch it if: You love quick dialogue, adult humour and colleagues who should never be assigned a team-building exercise.

Where to watch: Check the Disney+ Archer series page for current UK access and included seasons.

7. Phineas and Ferb

Three cartoon teens sit on a log outdoors; one holds a red guitar, smiling at the others in a bright, playful scene.

A list of Disney+ animated comedies should not pretend that only the adult shows are funny. Phineas and Ferb has one of the neatest comic structures in modern television: two inventive brothers decide to make the most of summer; their sister Candace tries to show their mother what they have built; and their pet platypus secretly battles the gloriously inept Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

You know the shape of an episode surprisingly quickly. The pleasure is watching the writers find new possibilities within it. A backyard project grows to absurd scale, Doofenshmirtz explains another oddly specific scheme, and two apparently separate stories collide at exactly the wrong—or right—moment. The running pattern becomes part of the joke rather than a reason to stop watching.

The songs add another layer of invention. They can be catchy, ridiculous and genuinely funny without feeling like an interruption. Meanwhile, Candace’s exasperation gives the show a recognisable sibling tension, even when the boys’ project has become impossible by ordinary standards.

It ranks seventh because it is the most openly family-oriented series on this list, not because it is less clever. If you want a show you can put on with younger viewers and still enjoy yourself, this is one of the strongest recommendations in the entire Disney+ catalogue.

Watch it if: You want fast, inventive, family-friendly comedy with excellent recurring jokes.

6. American Dad!

Animated Family Guy cast posing on a bright orange background, smiling and flexing in colorful clothes.

At first, American Dad! looks as though it will be another animated family sitcom built around a stubborn father. Stan Smith certainly provides plenty of conflict through his appetite for control. But the series grows much stranger—and much more distinctive—once the rest of the household has room to challenge him.

Francine, Hayley and Steve each bring a different kind of chaos. Roger, the alien living with them, is the show’s great source of comic possibility: a disguise can become an entire new identity, complete with an obsession and a disastrous plan. Even a routine domestic story can suddenly transform because Roger has decided today requires a new persona.

The result is often very funny in a way that Family Guy fans will recognise without feeling like a simple copy. The jokes can be outrageous, yet the best episodes build them from the characters’ needs and grudges. Stan wants to impose order; almost everybody around him has a reason to resist.

I place American Dad! at No. 6 because the ensemble is stronger and more flexible than its original premise might suggest. Across such a long run, the quality naturally varies, but it is an excellent series to try if you want an adult animated comedy with a familiar family setup and a willingness to go gloriously off the rails.

Watch it if: You want a dysfunctional animated family, quick jokes and an alien who can steal any scene.

5. Family Guy

Family Guy characters stand together on a suburban street at sunset, with a castle on a hill in the background.

Peter Griffin and his family have built a sitcom on the principle that the next joke does not have to obey the story you thought you were watching. A domestic problem can lead to a pop-culture reference, a wildly elaborate cutaway or a new argument among the Griffins. If a joke misses, another one arrives almost immediately.

That freedom is Family Guy’s biggest advantage. Stewie’s self-image, Brian’s vanity and Peter’s talent for making things worse create an enormous supply of comic opportunities. The show can be ridiculous without asking permission, and its references can make even a throwaway line feel like a conversation with viewers who remember the same television, films and cultural oddities.

It also explains why the series may not be your personal top pick. Its tone can be abrasive; its cutaways can interrupt a story just as you begin to care about it. A long run means individual seasons do not all feel equally fresh. Yet dismissing it would ignore how thoroughly it established its own comic rhythm and how many other adult animated shows have reacted to it.

No. 5 feels right because Family Guy is often extremely funny, especially when Stewie and Brian have room to work together, but our top four sustain their humour through character and world as well as surprise. If gag density is your main measure, you may rank it higher.

Watch it if: You like irreverent adult humour, pop-culture jokes and episodes willing to interrupt themselves for a laugh.

Where to watch: Disney+ confirmed Family Guy season 24 for UK streaming and lists the wider series.

4. King of the Hill

Three adults stand arm-in-arm in a backyard before a wooden fence and yellow house, looking calm.

Hank Hill would like people to be sensible. His family and neighbours keep giving him reasons to suspect that this may be too much to ask. That tension makes King of the Hill one of the most observant animated comedies on Disney+.

The show follows Hank, Peggy, Bobby and the residents of Arlen, Texas. Its stories rarely need an alien invasion or a gigantic cutaway. A change at work, a parenting disagreement or a new idea from Bobby can challenge Hank’s carefully held sense of order. Much of the humour comes from the pause before he responds: you can almost watch him trying to decide whether the world has gone wrong or whether he might have missed something.

Bobby is especially important. He is imaginative in ways that baffle his father, and the series finds both laughter and affection in their efforts to understand each other. Peggy’s confidence and the neighbours’ peculiar convictions give Arlen a wider comic life. The characters have enough dimension that a small misunderstanding can carry an entire episode.

The revival adds another reason to start or return: Disney+ UK has highlighted both the earlier seasons and the newer ones, including season 15. But the original appeal is timeless. This is the series to choose when you want jokes rooted in recognisable human behaviour, delivered without a shout.

Watch it if: You prefer subtle family comedy, memorable neighbours and an affectionate view of flawed people.

Where to watch: Disney+ UK’s King of the Hill guide confirms earlier seasons and season 15.

3. Bob’s Burgers

Bob's Burgers family sits on a couch in their living room, looking awkward and serious.

There is no mystery about why people become attached to the Belchers. Bob and Linda work hard to keep their restaurant afloat while raising Tina, Gene and Louise, whose plans frequently make an already difficult day far stranger. The family has problems, but affection is never in short supply.

That warmth would not be enough on its own. Bob’s Burgers is genuinely funny because every character approaches the same situation from a completely different angle. Tina’s earnest awkwardness, Gene’s love of performance and Louise’s schemes can transform a simple errand into a family operation. Bob’s exhausted reactions are even better because he so often understands exactly how badly things might go—and goes along anyway.

The restaurant gives the series a useful grounding. Bills need paying; customers need serving; a special event matters because this family could use a good day. From there, the writers can let the children’s imaginations take over. The show earns its emotional moments by never pretending that love magically solves the practical problem.

We put it at No. 3 because it may be the easiest series here to recommend as a repeat comfort watch. You can visit the Belchers for one episode or stay all evening. The jokes remain character-driven, and the household feels lived in even when the story becomes delightfully odd.

Watch it if: You want a warm but genuinely funny family sitcom with a distinctive ensemble.

2. Futurama

Futurama cast posed on white background, including Fry, Leela, Bender, Zoidberg, and others in colorful sci-fi outfits.

A delivery company in the future is a nearly perfect excuse for an animated comedy. Planet Express can send Fry, Leela and Bender almost anywhere, but the show never relies on a strange destination alone to make an episode work. Its characters bring their familiar needs and flaws into every unfamiliar world.

Fry is our way into the setting: an ordinary man displaced into an extraordinary century. Leela keeps the crew functional more often than anyone appreciates, and Bender treats rules as obstacles placed in his path for entertainment. The supporting characters add their own bizarre contributions. Together, they can make a routine delivery funny before it has even left the building.

The series is packed with verbal jokes, background details and science-fiction ideas that become more rewarding on a rewatch. It also knows when to let a story become unexpectedly emotional. That balance is a major reason Futurama ranks so high. A show can be silly for most of an episode and still leave you caring deeply about what happens next.

Its long journey through different eras has brought changes, and not every episode is an all-time classic. Still, when you want a Disney+ animated comedy that feels inventive rather than simply louder, Futurama is hard to beat. It makes the future seem like a place full of possibilities—and people you would happily spend time with.

Watch it if: You enjoy science-fiction jokes, a strong ensemble and occasional emotional surprises.

1. The Simpsons

The Simpsons family poses against a blue sky: Marge, Homer, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie smiling; Matt Groening signature.

The Simpsons takes our top spot because its finest episodes can make almost any corner of ordinary life funny. A school event, a supermarket visit, a family argument or Homer’s latest attempt to improve himself can become an unforgettable story. Springfield supplies a huge cast; the Simpson household makes us care what happens within it.

Homer is a comic marvel precisely because he is not one thing. He can be lazy, impulsive, jealous and deeply loving. Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie prevent the show from becoming merely a collection of his mistakes, while characters across town give the writers an astonishing range of voices and points of view. A background gag might be funny on its own; a line spoken by the right character can become funny for decades.

It would be dishonest to claim that every era of such a long-running show has the same energy. It would be equally strange to let that obscure its achievement. At its best, The Simpsons combines satire, slapstick, character comedy and heartfelt family stories with a fluency few series have approached.

There is also a practical pleasure in its huge Disney+ catalogue. New viewers can begin with acclaimed earlier seasons, while longtime fans can revisit favourite characters, themed collections or episodes they barely remember. That rewatch value, together with its unmatched comic world, makes it our No. 1 animated comedy series on Disney+.

Watch it if: You want the defining animated sitcom, with family stories and an entire town of memorable characters.

What should you put on tonight?

That depends on the laugh you need. Archer is ideal when you want quick, cutting dialogue; Phineas and Ferb makes an excellent family watch; King of the Hill understands the comedy hiding inside an awkward pause. For a comforting evening, it is difficult to beat the Belchers. For a more adventurous one, climb aboard the Planet Express ship.

Our No. 1 remains The Simpsons because Springfield gives you so many ways to laugh, and because the family at its centre makes even the strangest joke feel grounded in a familiar relationship. It is the best all-round recommendation here, though Futurama comes very close when imagination is the deciding factor.

The great thing about Disney+’s animated-comedy selection is that you can change your mind tomorrow. One episode with Homer, one with Bob and one with Hank will give you three completely different kinds of television night.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best animated comedy on Disney+?

Our pick is The Simpsons because its strongest episodes combine character comedy, satire and enormous rewatch value. If you prefer a gentler family dynamic, try Bob’s Burgers. If you want science-fiction ideas, Futurama may become your personal No. 1.

What are the best adult animated shows on Disney+ UK?

The Simpsons, Futurama, Bob’s Burgers, King of the Hill, Family Guy, American Dad!, Archer and Solar Opposites all appear in this ranking. They vary greatly in tone and age rating, so choose according to your taste rather than assuming “adult animation” describes one kind of humour.

Is Family Guy on Disney+ UK?

Yes. Disney+’s UK guide to season 24 confirms the series on the service. As with any long-running show, check the current listing if you need a particular season or episode.

Is The Simpsons worth starting from season one?

You can, but you do not have to approach it as a project. Many episodes tell self-contained stories, so beginning with an acclaimed early-season episode is a perfectly sensible introduction. If you enjoy Springfield, the larger catalogue will be waiting when you want more.

Which Disney+ animated comedy is best for families?

Phineas and Ferb is the clearest family-viewing pick in this countdown. Its repeating comic structure works well for younger viewers, while its jokes and songs can still entertain adults. Check age ratings for any other show here rather than assuming animation makes it child-friendly.

Which show should I watch after The Simpsons?

Try Futurama for an expansive setting, visual jokes and unexpected emotion. Choose King of the Hill if you prefer the family and neighbourhood observations. Bob’s Burgers is the best follow-up if what you most want is a household you enjoy revisiting.

Is Bob’s Burgers like Family Guy?

They are both animated family sitcoms, but their humour is quite different. Family Guy enjoys cutaways, references and deliberate provocation. Bob’s Burgers tends to build its jokes around the Belchers’ personalities and their affection for one another. The latter is a better comfort watch for many viewers.

Does Disney+ UK have King of the Hill’s revival?

Disney+ UK’s season 15 guide says season 15 and earlier seasons are available. Always confirm the live catalogue when you plan to watch, as platform offerings can change.

Which Disney+ animated comedy is the funniest for adults?

If you want rapid, cutting dialogue, start with Archer. For irreverent jokes and pop-culture references, choose Family Guy. For character-driven laughs, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers and King of the Hill are stronger choices. “Funniest” depends heavily on your preferred style.

Is Phineas and Ferb still worth watching as an adult?

Absolutely. Its elaborate story construction, musical jokes and recurring comic patterns are enjoyable even when you are older than its target audience. The show knows how to make repetition funny by changing the details around a familiar structure. It is also a welcome lighter option beside the more abrasive titles in this list.

For further official details on the service’s catalogue, browse Disney+ UK’s guide to adult animated shows.

Episode of the Week

That Love Podcast presents: American Bollywood — Episode 5

Format/Genre: A hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age audio rom-com about first love, fake dating, friendship, secret crushes and discovering that sometimes the people who truly see you have been watching all along.

Logline: With only hours to find a fake boyfriend for her double date with Miles Pires Shah, Izzy Lopez turns to Selina for help — and what begins as a ridiculous school-wide search unexpectedly reveals just how many people have been quietly noticing Izzy for years.

Izzy Lopez has created a boyfriend who does not exist, Miles Pires Shah expects to meet him that evening, and Selina has decided there is only one reasonable solution: find a real boy willing to play the part. Her search leads to Mason Ramos and Jake Geller, two book-loving classmates who reveal that they have both secretly liked Izzy for years and are remarkably enthusiastic about competing for the position.

Selina transforms an empty classroom into a bizarre game show where Mason and Jake must prove who knows Izzy best. What begins as a ridiculous competition quickly becomes increasingly unsettling as both boys demonstrate an astonishing knowledge of Izzy’s favourite books, movies, habits and embarrassing secrets — leaving Izzy to discover that she may not have been nearly as invisible as she always believed.

The questions become more personal until Selina asks something neither boy can answer with simple facts: what has Izzy wanted to feel more than anything since she was fourteen? Mason’s answer cuts through Izzy’s jokes and books and gets frighteningly close to the truth — she wants to know that she is enough exactly as she is, without having to perform or transform herself for somebody else.

With the double date getting closer and Miles waiting to meet a boyfriend who was invented less than a day earlier, Izzy finally has someone willing to step into the role. But the line between pretending and genuinely caring may already be much messier than she expected, especially when her chosen fake boyfriend has feelings that are anything but fake.

American Bollywood Episode 5 delivers romantic comedy, fake-dating chaos and surprising emotional depth as Izzy’s plan to make Miles finally see her raises an uncomfortable new question: what happens when someone else already does?
